How Hypnobirthing can help you have a calmer birth

By Caz Sayles – Doula

Seems impossible right? In our society labour and birth are seen as something to endure. We see pictures of screaming women on TV and films. It’s a means to an end. Or is it?

During my years of supporting pregnancy I now know that birth can be strong, powerful, calm, even enjoyable! And it’s mostly through using relaxation techniques and a change in mindset. If you watched the films with screaming people birthing then you’ve told your subconcious mind that birth is going to be awful. So when you go into labour you are tense and scared.

Your adrenaline will soar and your body will go into fight, flight or freeze. As the uterus is a muscle when it tenses it makes contractions more painful. Your heart beats faster and your oxytocin (the feel good hormone essential for labour) drops. Not ideal for birthing your baby!

What is hypnobirthing all about?

Hypnobirthing replaces those negative messages of birth with postitive ones. The relaxations open the door to your subconcious and convinces it that birth is safe and you can do it!  (I mean we are all here because our ancestors safely freebirthed at some point!) So when the time for labour comes you are confident and relaxed.

As well as that we talk about what happens to your body during labour which adds more trust in the process. I discuss comfort measures, help you write a birth plan and I support you 100% through your pregnancy, labour and birth. Whatever route that takes. In a way that suits you. Remember! Your body knows exactly what to do, it’s what we are made for. It’s just your mind you have to convince. If you want to chat about how I can help you email me on Caz@Cazsayles.co.uk to book a call.
